Summer is just around the corner and with more warm and sunny days ahead of us, taking a bath may seem like the last thing you want to do.  But wait; don’t rule out the bath just yet!  Adjust the temp of the water to “cool” and you’ve got a great way to beat the heat during those uncomfortable days!

Try this refreshingly tropical bath salt recipe next time you want to cool off in the tub:

1 Cup of your favorite Natural Salt
3 Drops Melon Fragrance
4 Drops Cucumber Fragrance

Storing your salts correctly is imperative to making sure that you get the longest shelf life out of your salts possible.

The packaging that we ship your salts in (whether it is our bulk re-sealable bags or PET jars with a screw top lid) are ideal for keeping the salts stored over a long period of time.

Salts scented with certain essential oils or fragrance oils can break materials down over time. We recommended the following materials for repackaging and storing your salts: PETglass, or high quality polyester/polyethylene bags (this is the same type of bulk bags that we use).

Here are some other tips to storing and re-packaging salts:

DO:
-Keep salts well sealed in their packaging (air tight packaging is ideal)
-Store in a location that is dry
-Keep the salts out of direct sunlight

DON’T:
-Store salts in rooms/areas with high humidity or moisture
-Expose salts to undesirable odors as because of the porous nature of the salts, they will absorb the odor.
-Repackage salts and store in metal containers

About Clumping: We sell natural salts without additives and sometimes the finer grains may clump slightly over long periods of time. This is normal, if this happens simply break up the clumps and the salt should flow freely again and not clump for a long time. This is not an issue with medium or coarse grain salts.

Typical Shelf Life of Salts:

-Raw, Natural Salts (no color or scent) - If properly stored these salts don’t really have an expiration date, they’ll keep for years and years.

-Colored & Scented Bath Salts- These salts generally have a shelf life of anywhere between 6-24 months (color and scent may fade over time).

Weeks ago I was speaking to a customer of ours and she mentioned that she added Dead Sea Mud into her baths.  Now, it never occurred to me to use the mud in this way as I always thought of the mud as being used as a mask.  But, I was very curious about this so I decided to give it a try and found that I absolutely love it!

Sure, adding the mud into my bath made the water turn brown but once I got in it felt wonderful.  The water didn’t feel “dirty” like I expected that it might, it actually felt really cleansing and the water was incredibly soft, too.

Try the recipe below for a bath that will almost make you feel as if you’re soaking in the real Dead Sea:

2 cups of Dead Sea Salt

¼ cup of Dead Sea Mud

Draw a nice warm bath and add the Dead Sea Salt and Dead Sea Mud.  Allow the salt and mud to disperse evenly throughout the tub.

Step in and enjoy your soak for 20 minutes, or as long as you’d like.

When you’re ready to hop out, give yourself a quick rinse with fresh water.  Follow with a light rinse of the tub to wash out any remaining mud left behind.

Our customers often ask for recommendations on helping them choose the most popular and wonderful smelling scents for their bath salts.  In light of this, I went around to find out the favorites aromas of some of us here at SFBSC...

Employees Choose Their Favorite Scent:

Daquari- Cool Citrus Basil

Sirro- Sweet Baby

Elizabeth- Oatmeal Milk & Honey

Leo- Green Tea

Savannah- Lemon

In addition to these top picks, we’re also loving Sweet Pea & Ivy right now.  This scent is soft and subtle and lovely all year round.
