Alaea (pronounced “a-LAY-a”) Hawaiian Red Salt
Traditional Alaea Hawaiian Red Sea Salt’s unique flavor is ideal for seasoning a variety of foods, especially when it comes to meat. It is widely used in Hawaii as a key seasoning for many of their native dishes including the kalua pig, poke, and Hawaiian jerky. It’s also used commonly for preserving.
Hawaiian volcanic clay called “alae” is added to this salt to enhance the salt with iron-oxide which gives the salt its extraordinary red color. Though adding the alae clay does not affect the taste of the salt, it does increase the health benefits of the salt by providing a source of digestible dietary iron.
Black Hawaiian Lava Salt
The smokey flavor of our Black Hawaiian Lava Salt is great for seasoning salads and vegetables, sushi, seafood, meats and more! It also makes a beautiful presentation for entrees when used as a garnish.
This salt obtains its natural and dramatic coloring from the activated charcoal added to the salt which is a known antitoxin and digestive aid.
