Our Overstock Spa Blend salts are not only great for use as bath salts and foot soaks; they also can be used to create your own heavy duty pedicure salt scrub.

If you’ve noticed that the heels of your feet require some much overdue TLC, you can help to soften and smooth them by using a pedicure salt scrub that you can easily create with our current overstock spa blend salts and a bit of oil.  Popular oil choices for making exfoliating salt scrubs include Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Avocado Oil, or Olive Oil.

Use the following ratio of salt to oil to create your scrub:

Blend 3 parts of salt to about 1 part of your choice of oil.

Feel free to take the liberty of adjusting the amount of the oil to create a salt scrub to your preference.  Once you’ve created your scrub, simply take a small handful of it and gently massage it on the bottom of your feet in circular motions; focusing on those dry, rough or callused heels. Then rinse.

You can store your pedicure scrub for future uses in a PET jar.  See our jars here: packaging

Why is it that when we finally get that much needed time away from our regular day-to-day lives and are off at some wonderful destination somewhere, we don’t get as much rest and relaxation as we would have hoped for during the trip?  I can vouch for this personally as most of the time while I’m away and on “vacation” I find myself running here and there either affixed to someone else's schedule, busy sight seeing, or out enjoying the night life. One thing’s for sure, I usually somehow come back feeling just as tired (or more tired!) than I was before I left.

So, I decided that I’m going to start my own vacation ritual by taking more baths, not only during my time away from home but also the days following my return.

When you think about it, it makes perfect sense to take more baths around vacation time. Bathing, especially with some of your favorite bath salts, can help soothe your tired and aching body after long plane rides, and eventful days.  Bathing with bath salts like Epsom Salt and Dead Sea Salt can also help rid the body of harmful toxins (consider the number of drinks consumed during vacation or those packed airplanes with who knows what kind of germs). Generally, the baths are just a nice way to unwind and let yourself truly relax at the end of the day and help you to get a better night’s sleep...

Here’s some of my picks for some great bath salt blends to try during and after your vacation to help you achieve true relaxation! Choose the one that’s most fitting for your own time away…

The following content is from an article posted last week on The Times Of India and explores the benefits of bath salts. It also includes a recipe for creating your own lavender bath salts.

The benefits of bath salt are many, and go beyond mere exfoliating dead cells to make skin soft and supple. A nice long soak in a tub sprinkled with bath salt releases muscle tension and improves common irritations such as insect bites, minor rashes, calluses on feet, while working on serious skin conditions like athlete's foot, eczema, and psoriasis. Says Nandita Suri, business director of Levo Spa, Ibis Hotel, Gurgaon, "Whether you have sore, tired feet from standing all day, or a stiff back from working at your desk, bath salts can help improve the way you feel and ease away the tension."

Just as we cannot do without a sunscreen lotion in summer, a jar of bath salt can be as indispensable if you've caught a bad tan or suffer pigmentation of skin. To keep reading CLICK HERE.

Studies have found that bathing either on a Full Moon or New Moon can have great benefits for the body and can enhance the great characteristics of Himalayan Salt.

Full Moon
Bath
On the day of a full moon the body's absorption potential is at it’s peak. At full moon, the body will absorb the most minerals from the Himalayan Salt. Weak points of the body are harmonized and the body's own energy flow is activated.

New Moon Bath

During the new moon the body's capacity for detoxification at its highest peak. This is an ideal time for a cleansing and detoxifying salt bath with Himalayan Salt.

Why not try this?
Fill up your tub with warm/hot water and add about 1 cup of Himalayan Salt, sit back, relax and let those minerals go to work! Soak your body for 20 minutes, hop out the tub and wrap your body in a warm towel and relax for another 15 minutes before rinsing (you can rinse if you’d like but it is not essential to rinse the body off) and enjoy these natural benefits from this amazing salt.

Don’t throw away that pretty jar of bath salts sitting on your bathroom counter. Real bath salts, such as those offered by San Francisco Bath Salt Company, are and have always been a safe way to unwind at the end of the day and are completely unrelated to the street drug known as “bath salts”.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) June 22, 2012

For centuries, bath salts have been a treasured addition to baths and spas around the world. Often carrying a pleasant scent and known for their numerous benefits, the term “bath salts” is synonymous with relaxation for those who’ve used them. But lately, countless news stories concerning “bath salts” by The Associated Press and other news agencies, have unwittingly cast bath salts in a negative light. How can something as innocuous as a bath salt be dangerous to the public?

“Bathing with real bath salts is one of the most rewarding, enriching things you can do for your body. The 'bath salts' that have been in the news as of late aren’t really bath salts at all,” explains Lee Williamson, President of San Francisco Bath Salt Company. “Real bath salts are not only completely harmless, they are beneficial.” The chances of mixing up the "bath salt" drugs and the real bath salts are slim; legitimate bath salts list an actual salt such as Sea Salt, Epsom Salt or Dead Sea Salt as their first ingredient and are sold at mainstream stores and websites. Williamson stresses that although it’s a good practice to buy bath salts from a reputable company, for those looking for real bath salts the chances of picking up the “dodgy ones” are virtually zero.

Williamson feels it’s crucial for the public to receive information regarding bath salts and is dedicated to increasing awareness concerning the age-old tradition of bathing with bath salts. “Taking a bath with real bath salts is a heavenly experience – and it’s also a safe one, using one of the safest products in the health and beauty industry. When you bathe with bath salts, you reap many, many rewards,” says Williamson.

Bath salts carry many essential minerals and nutrients that are beneficial for the body, inside and out. The minerals in bath salts work as a powerful detoxifying agent, cleansing impurities from the skin. Other nutrients found in natural sea salts nourish the skin, leaving it soft, moisturized, and supple, resulting in a healthy glow.

According to Williamson, bathing with bath salts is becoming increasingly popular as people seek relaxation and serenity in a fast-paced world. Having grown up in the U.K., where bath salts have always been popular, Williamson reflects on the increasing popularity of bathing here in the U.S. “Taking a bath is a wonderful way to make time for yourself and really escape the workaday world. It’s an incredible thing to do for your body, and general well-being and no one should ever worry about it. Bathing with bath salts is a time-honored tradition that all of us deserve to take part in.”
Williamson, who started the San Francisco Bath Salt Company over 10 years ago boils it all down to this, “Our philosophy is simple, we want everyone to remember how good it feels to simply take a bath.”

Taking a time out from the hustle and bustle of the day to day is essential. Tonight, why don’t you try drawing a nice bath- add some of your favorite bath salts, light some candles or incense, tune into your favorite play list and last but not least, close that bathroom door!

Shutting yourself away and taking a bath for at least 20 minutes is a great way to end the day.  You’ll get some quality "me time" to relax and unwind and it'll help you sleep so much better during the night.

Warning - Don't allow the following ruin a perfectly good soak:

-You spend your time sitting in the tub worrying about what’s on tomorrow’s agenda.
-You bring your cell phone into the bathroom with you (though you ignore the calls and don’t pick up this just sends your mom into a panic, so she keeps calling and calling…).
-You forget to close the door completely and your dog snoops in to investigate.
-Your bath gets interrupted by the sudden urge to pee and you have to hop out.

The scent of lavender is everywhere – its wonderful aroma is found in perfumes, scented candles, sachets, eye pillows, massage oil, bath salts, soap, and countless other products. You might think lavender is popular because of its famous scent – and sure, who can resist the light, sweet fragrance of lavender? But lavender isn’t just a pretty scent. It seems to have a wide range of effects on the mind, body, and spirit, and is used in both aromatherapy and alternative medicine.

Ever since the 1920’s, when French chemist Rene Maurice Gattefosse drenched his badly burned arm in a vat of this wonderfully aromatic liquid, lavender oil has gained quite a bit of notoriety in the aromatherapy world. Nobody knew about the healing properties of lavender essential oil until Rene set his arm on fire and, desperate to douse in the flames, dipped his arm in a large tub filled with it. He was awed by how quickly his burn healed, and by the noticeable lack of scarring thereafter. He went on to dedicate his life to studying the benefits of essential oils.

In terms of medicinal uses, lavender essential oil is used as first aid to treat many common ailments. Lavender is a powerful anti-inflammatory and antiseptic and is commonly used to soothe painful cuts, burns, bites, and stings. Lavender is also a popular treatment for sunburns and sunstroke, and can be combined with chamomile to treat eczema. It is also used to relieve toothaches and heart palpitations. When used in a foot bath, lavender essential oil curtails fatigue – and makes your feet smell like flowers, which is always a good thing.

Lavender oil is also known to repel insects such as lice, fleas, and mosquitos. If any of these annoying pests are stubborn enough to bite you anyway, you can use lavender oil to treat the bite.

Lavender doesn’t just soothe painful cuts and bruises – it is also known to soothe and calm the mind. Lavender essential oil is often added to candles, pillows, and a variety of bath products. The sweet scent of lavender is incredibly relaxing, and it is said to help people rid themselves of stress and anxiety. Lavender is often present in massage oils and lotions.

With so many lavender products out there, it’s easy to enjoy the benefits of lavender essential oil in your own home. Perhaps one of the nicest ways to take advantage of lavender’s wonderful scent and soothing nature is to take a nice, hot bath with some bath salts infused with lavender essential oil. As you fill the tub with warm water, take a handful of lavender scented bath salts and pour them into the stream of water to agitate the salts and release the aroma. Turn off the lights and light a few candles, and draw the bath curtain closed around the tub to keep the powerful, sweet vapors from escaping. Close your eyes and breathe in the gorgeous scent of fresh lavender, and stay in the tub for a while. After all, what’s the rush?
