Sea Salt - Natures Exfoliator
Sea salt is a wonderful ingredient in any bath, and we know there are many benefits to using sea salt as a bath salt. Sea salt contains a variety minerals and nutrients that benefit our bodies, particularly our skin. It can transform an otherwise ordinary bath into a powerful tonic which nourishes, invigorates and detoxifies.

Sea salt is wonderful when simply dissolved in water and used as a soak, but many people don’t know that sea salt is an incredibly effective exfoliator. That’s right - sea salt gently cleanses pores and helps slough off dead skin, revealing the softer, healthier skin underneath.

Exfoliation is a must for healthy, attractive skin. Dead skin cells typically cover our bodies, as skin cells die and are reborn constantly. This lifeless outer layer can give your skin a dull, lifeless appearance and can even make us look older by accentuating the cracks on the skin’s surface. When you exfoliate, you remove the outer layers of dead epidermis (skill) cells. People use a variety of exfoliation techniques, including the use of sea and loofah sponges, oatmeal, pumice, ground nuts and seeds, and, yes - sea salt.

When you use sea salt as a scrub prior to or during a bath, the benefits of bathing actually increase. As you gently scrub, your skin becomes stimulated as your circulation improves. Your pores open and are ready to absorb all the wonderful minerals and nutrients in your bath. You can add essential oils, fragrances, and herbs to your bath salts to make your scrub even more beneficial.

You can even combine bath salts with bath gel to make your own unique exfoliating cleanser to use either in the bath or in the shower (of course, we prefer the bath, but if you’re in a pinch, bath salts will work in the shower too). Find a fragrant bath gel of your choice with a rich lather and pour some into a new bottle (or even a bowl). Add a handful of bath salts to your bath gel and stir/shake until the salts are blended in. Presto! You’ve got your own custom exfoliating cleanser.

Exfoliation can be done every time you take a bath. Before you bathe gently “brush” your dead skin with a washcloth or loofah. Do this very gently and be sure not to overdo it. Once you are in the tub, pour some bath salts into the palm of your hand. Rub the salt gently into your skin, take your time and cover every inch of your body. If you made your own exfoliating bath gel, simply squeeze or pour some into the palm of your hand and clean your body using small circular motions.

Remember, you are using salt - be sure to shave ahead of time (in other words, don’t rub salt into an open wound). Also, a word of caution to those with sensitive skin - be extremely gentle and try and use salt of a fine grain, which is less abrasive than larger grain salts.

Try it! Your skin will feel incredibly clean, soft, and be left with a vibrant glow.
